Hallelujah at Howard University (feat. The HU Showtime Marching Band & Concert Chorale)
“Hallelujah at Howard University” was such a full-circle moment for me. I got to bring my classical-meets-modern style together with the incredible legacy of Howard’s Showtime Marching Band and Concert Chorale. What made it even more powerful was connecting with students who reminded me so much of myself, who don’t fit into a box. Engineers, filmmakers, classical musicians—all celebrating being Black in their own way. This version of Handel’s Hallelujah isn’t just a remix—it’s a statement. This is what happens when classical meets culture. We’re not just performing—we’re shifting the narrative with energy, with joy, and without apology. THE DELUXE EDITION OF MY ALBUM “DAWN OF A MISFIT” IS OUT NOW! http://kevinolusola.lnk.to/DOAMDeluxe Featuring “Hallelujah at Howard University” and instrumental versions of “Smile” and “Have I Told You.” LISTEN TO “DAWN OF A MISFIT DELUXE EDITION”: Apple Music https://KevinOlusola.lnk.to/DOAMdeluxeID/applemusic Spotify https://kevinolusola.lnk.to/DOAMdeluxeID/spotify Amazon Music https://KevinOlusola.lnk.to/DOAMdeluxeID/amazonmusic Deezer https://KevinOlusola.lnk.to/DOAMdeluxeID/deezer BUY “DAWN OF A MISFIT” ON CD: Amazon https://KevinOlusola.lnk.to/DawnofaMisfitID/amazoncd Barnes and Noble https://KevinOlusola.lnk.to/DawnofaMisfitID/barnesnoble Record Store Day (Indie Retailers) https://KevinOlusola.lnk.to/DawnofaMisfitID/recordstoreday FOLLOW KEVIN: https://www.instagram.com/kolusola/ https://www.facebook.com/KO1Music https://www.tiktok.com/@kolusola?lang=en https://x.com/KOlusola Sign up for Kevin’s Newsletter: https://kevinolusola.com/ Join the Misfit Mafia on Laylo: https://KevinOlusola.lnk.to/LayloSignUpID Director: Jami Ramberan Producers: Ron Jaramillo, Larissa Slezak, Charmaine Crutchfield-Nelson, Jeremy Truong First Assistant Director: Jolene Carter Second Assistant Director: Chris Roberts Director of Photography: Keith Nixon 1st AC: Aditya Gupta 2nd AC: Christopher “CJ” Byrd Camera Operator 1: Kiara Mangum Camera Operator 2: Joseph Macharia Steadicam Operator: Chris Cumber Jib Operator: Kaleb Davis Hair & Makeup Artist: Carla Pressley Editor: Kyle Sims Colorist: Alexia Salingaros Howard University: Assistant Dean for Administration: Denise Saunders Thompson Director of Development: Tiana Williams Elliott Assistant Vice President, Auxiliary Enterprises: LaNiece Tyree Director of Bands: Chancellor Mills Director of Chorale: Eric Poole, Ph.D. Management: Sara Baczewski, Matt Graham, Lisa Wolfe, Phoebe Wang / Range Media Partners Music video by Kevin Olusola performing Hallelujah at Howard University (feat. My Asian is American
A Poetic rallying cry, highlighting the horrific miscarriages of justice that Asian-Americans and Asians in America are, and have historically been subjected to: day to day micro-aggressions to actual acts of violence and terror against members of our community. From the perspective of Emmy-Award winning poet and performer Suzen Baraka, this lyrical short shares her story of growing up Black and Korean in America and struggling with shame, helplessness, and rage before finding pride, power and courage.
